When to choose MSP360
MSP360 is the product closest to Arkame, and in several cases it is the better choice:
- You need a system image on Windows Server or Windows Desktop. Arkame backs up files only.
- You need SQL Server or Exchange backups with the product handling consistency. With Arkame, a database goes in as a dump, and in Docker the before and after commands do not run.
- You protect desktops and Macs. MSP360 costs US$ 19.99 per year on macOS and US$ 29.99 on Windows Desktop; Arkame costs US$ 60 per year on any OS. Here Arkame is more expensive.
- Your storage is Azure Blob Storage. Arkame only speaks the S3 API, and Azure Blob is not on the list.
- You need VM backup.
- You want a product with many years on the market and a dedicated MSP line.
When to choose Arkame
Arkame makes sense when what you protect is server files:
- Your servers run Windows Server: US$ 60 per year versus US$ 109.99, if you do not need a system image.
- You want one price, the same on Linux, Windows and macOS, with no per-OS editions and no support sold separately.
- You want to restore in the browser, on a timeline, and guided Object Lock in Compliance mode in the panel, with the agent warning you if versioning or Object Lock is off.
- You want to read the agent’s code: it is open source (Apache 2.0), with signed releases.
- You work in Spanish or Portuguese as well as English: the panel speaks all three.
How to switch without losing history
Both write to your storage, but each in its own format. Do not point one at the other’s files.
Create a new bucket for Arkame, with versioning and Object Lock. The storage guide shows how on Backblaze B2, Wasabi and AWS.
Install the agent and create a plan with the same folders as your current backup.
Click "Run now" and restore a test file.
Leave the MSP360 backups where they are until their retention runs out. While you might need an old version, delete nothing.
When Arkame covers what matters, turn off the old plan server by server.
FAQ
Is Arkame cheaper than MSP360?
It depends on the OS. On Windows Server, yes: US$ 60 per year versus US$ 109.99. On Linux Server, about the same: US$ 60 versus US$ 59.99. On macOS (US$ 19.99) and Windows Desktop (US$ 29.99), no: Arkame costs more.
Does Arkame back up SQL Server?
Not the way MSP360 does. Arkame copies files: create the database backup (a .bak, for example) in the plan’s "before backup" command, and Arkame protects the resulting file.
Can I use the same bucket?
You can use the same provider account, but prefer a bucket just for Arkame. That way one tool’s retention and Object Lock never touch the other’s files.
How much is MSP360 Managed Backup?
MSP360’s page does not publish a per-server price for Managed Backup: it offers a calculator. That is why it is not in the table.
