Backblaze for servers: Computer Backup or B2 + Arkame?
Backblaze Computer Backup protects Windows 10/11 and macOS computers with unlimited data for US$ 99 per year.
It does not install on Linux or Windows Server: Backblaze itself lists both as unsupported.
For servers, Backblaze offers B2, S3-compatible storage, and Arkame backs up servers straight to a B2 bucket.

When to choose Backblaze Computer Backup
For work computers, Computer Backup is hard to beat:
- You protect laptops and desktops running Windows 10/11 or macOS.
- You want unlimited data for a fixed price: US$ 99 per year per computer.
- You do not want to open a bucket or think about storage: it is included.
- The computer runs Windows 11 with Smart App Control on. There, the Arkame agent, not code-signed yet, is blocked.
When to choose B2 + Arkame
When the machine is a server, Computer Backup is not an option. That is where B2 with Arkame comes in:
- Your servers run Linux (with or without Docker) or Windows Server.
- You want backups in a Backblaze account you own, with Object Lock on the bucket against ransomware.
- You want scheduling, GFS retention and restore by date in the browser, for many servers in one panel.
- You accept paying for storage by volume, instead of a fixed unlimited price.
How to point Arkame at B2
If you already have a Backblaze account, or already use B2 with another tool, it takes a few steps.
In B2, create a bucket for Arkame with versioning and Object Lock. The B2 guide shows each screen.
Create an application key restricted to that bucket.
Add the bucket in the Arkame panel and install the agent on the server with the command the panel shows.
Create a plan, click "Run now" and restore a test file.
If you already write to B2 with restic or rclone, use a separate bucket for Arkame: each tool has its own format and retention.
FAQ
Can I install Backblaze Computer Backup on a server?
Not on Linux or Windows Server: Backblaze lists both as unsupported, and the software does not install on Linux.
How much does B2 storage cost?
Backblaze bills by stored volume, directly to you. The storage comparison shows B2’s cost next to the other providers.
Can I use Computer Backup on computers and Arkame on servers?
Yes. It is a common split: workstations on Computer Backup, servers on B2 with Arkame.
Does B2 have Object Lock?
Yes, through the S3 API. With versioning and Object Lock in Compliance mode, written versions stay immutable for the period you choose, and not even someone who steals the server’s key can delete them.
