Where should your backups live?
With Arkame you bring your own bucket (BYOS). You pay for storage directly at the provider — we only charge US$5 per server per month for orchestration. Compare the main supported S3-compatible providers.
Drag to see what each provider would charge per month to hold that much. Storage only: egress depends on how much you download.

- Object LockA write lock on the bucket itself, through the S3 API — which is how the Arkame agent talks to it. With a default retention in Compliance mode set on the bucket, no version can be deleted or overwritten before the period ends, not even by someone who steals the server’s credential: that is what separates a backup from a copy the ransomware encrypts along with everything else. Google Cloud Storage and OCI have their own retention, but not through the S3 API. Cloudflare R2 has its own locks, configured outside the S3 API, and no versioning.

Click a header to sort. Prices are for each provider’s standard class, approximate public list values (Jun 2026) that vary by region — confirm on the provider’s site by clicking its name. Those marked ❄ also offer archive classes, far cheaper: on AWS, Deep Archive is around US$0.001 per GB, roughly twenty times less than Standard. The trade-off carries three prices the table does not show: the object takes 3 to 12 hours to become available, retrieval is billed per GB, and there is a minimum billing duration (90 days on Glacier, 180 on Deep Archive). For backups with many small files, check the per-object surcharge too — it can eat the savings.
Which one to pick
I want the cheapest
Backblaze B2 has the lowest $/GB and native Object Lock. Free egress up to 3× your stored volume covers occasional restores.
I restore often
Wasabi doesn't charge for data egress (within fair use) and has Object Lock through the S3 API. Cloudflare R2 also has free egress, but no versioning or Object Lock through the S3 API, so Arkame doesn't accept it for new storage: without versions, there is no point-in-time restore.
On your own hardware
Any S3-compatible service you host yourself (e.g. MinIO, RustFS): data never leaves your infrastructure. Arkame orchestrates; the hardware, the network and the off-site copy are up to you.
Arkame works with all of them except Cloudflare R2.
Pick the provider that fits your budget and geography. Switch whenever you want — your keys, your bucket. Arkame never holds your data.
